101 Creations

This is an Illustration I did for a music book for a variety of instruments for instrumental country music named '101 creations'. I did this Illustration before the college course I am on now and had no lessons in Art as I didn't do it as a GCSE. I produced the covers using felt tip pen as the person who wanted the illustrations wanted it to be slightly themed around 101 dalmatians (hence the title) and just generally cartoony all over.
The only things that bother me about the covers now is my choice of font, it was very basic and could have been changed to suit the artwork more.

Add a Splash of Personality

I haven't drawn anything like skulls in a while but rather than just drawing a skull I thought I'd make it a little more interesting. So I decided to try and link it to the idea of what makes us unique? In the sense that who we are changes our appearance from being the same and to me this isn't just shown on someones surface it's what lies underneath that defines us (without sounding too cliched). I chose this design as a straight forward representation of a more creative personality by applying different colours and repeated patterns whilst adding a subtle tint of a quirky cheeky personality in the face.

Tints of Characteristics

Here I have taken a pencil drawing of Helena Bonham-Carter (which I gave a slightly cartoon-like look to it to suit her character more). I have then uploaded it to Photoshop, coloured it in and played around with the hue and saturation, it was only a quick and simple edit but I think it has made the drawing more interesting and linked to how the actress shows many different 'colours' with each different role that she plays.

Felt Tip Portrait

Here is a portrait of a girl called Lydia. I sketched this in pencil first (like the other portraits) and then went over the lines and coloured it in with felt tip.

Biro Portrait

Here is a portrait of a girl called Shanice. I sketched this first in pencil and then went over it with a Biro to look at using line to create tone rather than smudges and shading.
